Your Appointment with Dr.Meyers

What to expect at your first appointment:

An initial chiropractic consultation and examination will take approximately 45 minutes. Our goal is to keep you comfortable and create an appropriate treatment plan that best fits you. Any previous health medical records or advanced imaging is always helpful to provide the best overall care possible.

The first priority at the initial visit is to fill out some paperwork. The paperwork includes past-medical history information, family medical history and what brought you to the office. You will label a picture of the body showing where the pain, discomfort or any other symptoms may be present. Dr. Meyers takes a look at your information before bringing you into the exam/treatment room.

Dr. Meyers will take an expanded history. Information can provide clues for proper diagnosis. Important information to provide include bone disorders, like osteoporosis, injuries, joint disorders, circulation problems, dizziness or blurred vision, heart conditions and infections. Other questions to expect include:

"Did the pain come on suddenly from an injury?"

"When did the pain start?"

"What is the quality of pain felt?"

"What makes it feel better or worse?"

After taking a history, Dr. Meyers will perform a physical exam including evaluation of general health, posture, range of motion, neurological integrity, orthopedic testing and a chiropractic evaluation. A chiropractic evaluation involves feeling, or palpating, the muscles in the area of complaint as well as checking for proper joint mobility. During all examinations, Dr. Meyers will continually ask if any part of the exam is uncomfortable or reproduces the pain normally experienced. If you have any questions during the exam, please ask. Knowledge and education are keys to attaining health.

The office is not equipped with x-ray equipment. Therefore, if there are any concerns or red flags, Dr. Meyers will refer you to get x-rays prior to treatment.

If x-rays are not necessary and Dr. Meyers feels chiropractic care is an appropriate treatment, she will schedule a report of findings appointment to educate you on the treatment deemed necessary for your individual condition. Following the principles of the closed kinetic chain, she will individualize treatment based on your personal findings. Treatment may include joint mobilization, chiropractic adjusting of the spine and/or extremities using various techniques, and soft tissue mobilization and stretching. As treatment progresses, Dr. Meyers will discuss and demonstrate rehabilitation exercises that can be done at home to further enhance the treatment done in the office.

At the report of findings appointment, course of treatment will be determined. The frequency of visits will be based on the individual's condition. Keep in mind, whether the condition is acute (an injury that happened recently) or chronic (slow onset of condition) it is best to have frequent visits early in a treatment regime to promote proper biomechanics and begin the healing process. Based on the body's response and patient compliance, care will slowly transform from active care to passive care.

At Chiropractic with Care we make scheduling your appointments simple and convenient for you.
