Nutrition

Your body is a complex organism with thousands of chemical processes taking place every second. Each chemical reaction can either take place properly or not. What determines the fate of each process?

NUTRITION- Everyday choices are made about what you are going to eat. Sometimes you take the healthier route and have a delicious green salad or the "less nutritious" route and go for the triple cheese burger and fries. Once you realize it was YOU that made that decision, you finally have a sense of control. Having good nutritional habits affects all areas of your life. Vitamins and minerals are essential for the body to function and have energy each day. Nutrition affects your mood and your ability to do your job. This is one area of which you can take total control and responsibility.

Genetics- Unfortunately, there is very little we can do to control genetics. The key to understanding genetics is an acceptance of the cards you are dealt. From there, understanding that you have control, through other means such as nutrition, of promoting good genetic expression or bad genetic expression. For example: An individual with Phenylketonuria (PKU) can not consume the amino acid phenylalanine due to a genetic change. That individual has the choice to eat items that contain high amounts of phenylalanine (eggs, dairy, aspartame) and suffer the consequences or that individual has the choice to eliminate those foods from the diet and lead a healthier lifestyle. The same applies for individuals that are predisposed to heart conditions or Diabetes. Although you may have been dealt cards that are more difficult, it is still your choice as to how you handle your challenges.

Dr. Meyers provides all levels of nutritional counseling, including weight loss, blood sugar control, understanding diseases such as Celiac disease, decreasing systemic inflammation, and more.
